Scheduled Power Maintenance – server12

Tuesday, March 24th, 2015

Our monitoring systems have detected problems with a PDU (Power Distribution Unit) that supplies critical load to the network access switch which in turn provides connectivity to server12.simplewebserver.co.uk.

Although load is currently being sustained, the intelligent management of this unit is impaired and it is likely that in the near future this may become service affecting.

Due to this, we are scheduling maintenance to replace this unit. During this maintenance it will be necessary to power down the network switch for duration of the replacement process.

MAINTENANCE WINDOW
Start:
2015-03-31 23:00 (BST / GMT+1)
End:
2014-03-31 00:00 (BST / GMT+1)

EXPECTED IMPACT
Complete connectivity outage for affected server of up to 10 minutes during the above window.

Our apologies for the inconvenience caused by this work, however please be assured it is necessary to complete.

Scheduled Power Maintenance – server16

Thursday, October 16th, 2014

Our monitoring systems have detected problems with a PDU (Power Distribution Unit) that supplies critical load to server16. Although load is currently being sustained, the intelligent management of this unit is impaired and it is likely that in the near future this may become service affecting.

Due to this, we are scheduling maintenance to replace this unit. During this maintenance it will be necessary to power down the server for the duration of the replacement process.

MAINTENANCE WINDOW

Start:

2014-10-21 22:00 (BST / GMT+1)

End:

2014-10-21 23:00 (BST / GMT+1)

EXPECTED IMPACT

Total service outage for affected servers of up to 20 minutes during the above window.

Our apologies for the inconvenience caused by this work, however please be assured it is necessary to complete.

Due to this working involving the powering down of hardware, please take time to ensure you have complete backups of your data stored in an off-server location.

MySQL updates – important notice

Saturday, June 28th, 2014

We will be starting to roll out updates of MySQL version 5.5 starting next week. Although this 5.5 strain has been available for some time now, it’s a major update to our servers and can affect existing sites – particularly ones that are not running the latest versions of PHP software.

Please use this time to ensure your software is up-to-date (which it, of course, always should be!)

Urgent server maintenance – server15

Wednesday, November 6th, 2013

Customers hosting on server15.simplewebserver.co.uk may be aware of two short outages overnight. The first was around 30 minutes – this was due to the server being rebooted and needing to do a full disk check. The second, a couple of hours later was for just a few minutes.

On investigation this morning it has become apparent that these outages were caused by a failing disk drive which will need replacing. Fortunately the disk drive in question is the one used for backups which should make the process fairly easy.

Between 9pm and 10pm this evening (Wednesday, 6th November) we’ll be taking the server offline in order to replace the failing drive. There will be around a 30 minute window of service disturbance during this time as we power down the server, remove the drive and check everything is as it should be in the BIOS.

We apologise for the short notice but I’m sure you’ll appreciate the urgency required here.

Planned Maintenance

Wednesday, August 8th, 2012

This notice is for planned maintenance on our network during the period outlined below. The work forms the initial stages of network upgrades.

START: 2012-08-15 00:01 BST (GMT+1) END:2012-08-15 02:00 BST (GMT+1)

START: 2012-08-22 00:01 BST (GMT+1) END: 2012-08-22 02:00 BST (GMT+1)

EXPECTED IMPACT: Less than 30 second loss of network connectivity

This work will significantly expand our external connectivity and internal backhaul network using multiple 10Gbps (Gigabit per second) links as well as laying groundwork for the deployment of IPv6 services. Moving to a 10Gbps core network ensures we continue meet and exceed the demands of the latest high-bandwidth applications and broadband services.

During the above period will be undertaking maintenance to implement physical topology changes in preparation for further planned network upgrade work. As part of this work there will be a very short outage for each customer service, anticipated to be less than 30 seconds.
