We’ve been very proud to be one of the few web hosts in the UK that allow you to pay for your hosting renewals by Direct Debit. Whilst the take-up has been low, we’ve always thought it was a great feature.

Sadly, with effect from 1st June, 2011 we will no longer be able to accept payment by Direct Debit. This is for a number of reasons to do with cost and automating our payment systems. Accepting payments by Direct Debit is actually quite expensive and, despite recent improvements by BACS, is still a very manual procedure.

If you currently pay for your web hosting or domain name renewals by Direct Debit, we’ll very soon be automatically switching them to pay by credit/debit card. If you don’t have a valid credit/debit card on file, you should login to www.simplewebhosting.co.uk/secure and follow the ‘My Details’ link.

Don’t forget, simplewebhosting.co.uk doesn’t impose any fees on payment processing whether you choose to pay by credit or debit card.

One of the primary functions of a website is to be a platform by which your customer base (or those that may become your customer base) can get in contact with you or your organisation in general. If someone hears of your business or one of your products, the first thing they will look at in order to contact you is your online presence.

For this reason, it is imperative that your contact details are a) available on the website and b) easy to find, so that the user does not have to trawl through the entire website for hours just so that they can send you a quick email.

So, where should you put your contact information and how should it be conveyed to your web users?

Our recommendation is that you utilise a system on your website called a contact form. You will doubtless have seen these around the internet and they are by far the best way to get contact from potential customers.

They are very simple for the user to work with as they simply ask for some basic personal information for purposes of identification and reply, then have an input box for the user to put their message in. There is no way this procedure could be easier for the user to go through. The message they input and their details can then be sent through to you, direct to your email for an even more convenient means of receiving and replying to the queries and comments of those contacting you.

Another advantage of these forms is that you do not have to publish your actual email address online. If you were to publish this, then you become very susceptible indeed to spam. Not having to publish this means that the spammers won’t be able to target you as easily and your inbox will remain clearer.

Also, you are able to add a captcha image or other checking system to ensure that the message is being submitted by an actual human being and not a machine or spambot. Yet again, this method allows you to limit the amount of spam and unnecessary messages that can make their way into your inbox, keeping you from getting to the emails that really matter.

Of course, this information has to be easy for the user to get to and so the best way to go is to add a button to your navigation bar saying something along the lines of “Contact Us”. This ensures immediately that there is no confusion as to where you can be contacted.

So to conclude, the methodology for contacting you via your website is very important as the ease of it governs whether any of the prospective customers who visit your site will actually bother to pursue contact with you. A contact form is a lovely way to set up this contact, so putting one into place can lead to a tonne of new customers rolling in.

Your homepage is the most important page of your website. It is the first thing that most of your visitors will see and so it is of paramount importance that this page is good enough to entice the reader into looking at even more of your content and henceforth learning more about your company and the products you have on offer.

The more attractive your homepage is the more chance there is of visitors deciding to stay on your website for longer and thus read through more of your information and products. For this reason, it is imperative that you work hard on your homepage in order to make sure that it is attractive enough to lure in the customers.

So, what can you do to make the homepage of your website great for your visitors to look at?

Firstly, the trick is minimalism. No-one is going to look at a website that is too flashy and over the top. If you cover your page with flashing images and massive banners, then there is absolutely no chance of visitors spending enough time on your website to come into contact with the information on your company and your products.

As well as this, it is important that you do not cover your homepage in reams of text. If all of your text and information is found on the homepage, then no-one is going to look deeper through the site in order to see the depth of the other information on your website and the product pages that you really want them to look at in order to find the information on your actual products.

Even better, you can use the homepage in order to tease the reader as to the contents within. If your homepage content is well written, then it can be the ultimate hook to bring the reader around to looking at the further information on your website and thus buy soma online buying your products in the end. The more you play on what the reader wants, the more chance you have of them getting to buy your product eventually.

Crucially however, the homepage for your business has to look professional. There is no point trying to sell your product to people using a website that looks like it has been designed by someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. Due to this, it is often best to seek a professional to do the designing for you as they will definitely be able to produce something that is befitting of the level of professionalism that you want to convey with your website as a whole.

So to conclude, the homepage of your website is very important indeed as it is the main hook you will use to lure a reader into the rest of your content and products. A well designed homepage is certain to cause a huge upwards spike in your revenue whereas a poor design is certain to gain you no success at all.

The prospect of your website suddenly disappearing from cyberspace is a horrid thought that plagues the mind of many webmasters. People spend hours of their lives designing and developing their online presence, meticulously working out how every page should look and writing reams of content to adorn these pages. Imagine if all that were just to disappear one day. How would you feel then?

You would be very annoyed. It would be absolute torture for anybody who had worked hard on something to see all of their work go up in smoke based on one little problem. The answer to getting peace of mind based on this kind of issue is to make backup copies of your website to be stored in various locations. This means that you needn’t worry if the online version of your site goes kaput as you can easily restore it in all its glory!

So, how do you backup the files for your website? If you use an online site management tool such as cPanel, then they should have a built in backup feature that creates a compressed file which, when extracted, provides all of the files from your website.

If you do not use one of these services, then you can obtain all of the files from your website using a properly configured FTP client, such as the one built into Adobe Dreamweaver or the freeware FTP Surfer. These all allow you to make copies of every file which runs your website.

Once you have the files on your computer, there is a huge number of other methods you could use to ensure that you have even more backup copies of your website. You can put the files on USB memory sticks, external hard drives and CD-ROMs, meaning that there are many layers of protection for your site, giving you a lot more piece of mind than if the files are only held in existence by the strength of a particular web server.

Of course, the issue here lies in the fact that your website is likely to update regularly and thus the backups have to be carried out very regularly in order to keep up with the rapidly changing content on your pages. The easiest way to get around this kerfuffle is to come up with a backup schedule. Perhaps more lengthy backups such as the one to CD-ROM should be weekly or even monthly affairs whereas buy levitra on line swift file transfer to external HDDs and memory sticks can be done daily.

Therefore, it is easy to keep your website backed up and thus there is very little room for complaint if a server issue happens to suck your website into the black hole of dead cyberspace. Huge numbers of easy backup solutions exist and the more you decide to use, the better it will be for you.

Great anguish can be avoided with a rigorous backup schedule as you never have to worry about losing all of your hard work. It just goes to show that there is no substitute for good old peace of mind.
