How to deal with SPAM (geeky info)
As well as being a general nuisance to your mailbox, spam can also cause great damage to our web servers having a knock-on effect to the service we provide you. So, what can we do?
All our unix hosting plans (Starter, Commerce and Advanced Plans) and our mail-only plans include the SpamAssassin software.
SpamAssassin is a mature, widely-deployed program that serves as a mail filter to identify spam. The software uses a variety of mechanisms including header and text analysis, Bayesian filtering, DNS blocklists and collaborative filtering databases. SpamAssassin runs on our servers and filters spam before it reaches your mailbox.
You can find SpamAssassin in your control panel (www.yourdomain.com/cpanel) then choosing the Mail option, then SpamAssassin.
To install it, simply click the 'Enable SpamAssassin' button; this will then mark the subject line of any spam with *****SPAM*****.
The next step is to have SpamAssassin delete your spam completely (by far the best option!) To do this, choose the 'To simply have the server DELETE and NOT deliver emails that are tagged as spam by SpamAssassin, click here now."
Should I use the 'Spam Box' facility?
Probably not. Unless you check your Spam Box daily, it is likely to fill up quickly making you reach your quota and then have mail bounced.
